Black wood is a general term for various dark-hardwood tree species, with core varieties including Australian Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon, Fabaceae family, Acacia genus), African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon, Fabaceae family, Dalbergia genus), and North American Blackwood (Carya texana, Juglandaceae family, Carya genus). It is a valuable hardwood species that combines both collection value and practicality.

Typically, it can reach 15–25 meters in height, with a trunk diameter of approximately 0.4–0.8 meters. The wood is dark brown to jet black, featuring fine grain and natural luster. Its native distribution is concentrated in warm and humid forest areas of southeastern Australia (New South Wales), eastern Africa (Tanzania, Kenya), and southern North America (Texas, USA). Humans have used it for over a thousand years, such as in ancient Egyptian wood carvings, European classical musical instruments, and royal furniture making.
